Post-Doctoral Fellowship Position Opening
Institute on Violence, Abuse and Trauma at Alliant International University, San Diego Campus, invites applications for a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in the Forensic and Clinical Psychology field. Under the supervision of Dr. Robert Geffner, the post-doctoral fellow will work under our Professional Services division.  This position begins between August 1, 2010 and August 15, 2010 and ends August 31, 2011.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Working on forensic cases, especially involving child custody and family violence issues, and managing forensic consulting projects;
  • Acting as the Case Manager including maintaining client invoices, associates’ invoices, supervisors’ schedules, client appointments, contacting attorneys to set up interviews and evaluations etc.;
  • Assisting in the supervision and training of Psychology Interns who are doctorate students with Master’s degrees in clinical or forensic psychology;
  • Providing consultation within the community regarding issues of family violence victims and offenders, psychological trauma, and children exposed to violence;
  • Developing and conducting program evaluations of local and national agency programs;
  • Working with the Professional Training and Conferences Department to help plan and manage trainings designed for certification programs;
  • Grant writing;
  • Expanding clinical services offered at the Institute for Violence, Abuse and Trauma;
  • Conducting intake interviews, individual psychotherapy, group psychotherapy, and supervised visitation  under the supervision of Dr. Geffner at the IVAT clinic, as needed;
  • Participating in a weekly 2 hour clinical and forensic supervision and training meeting.

Qualifications: Candidates should hold a doctorate degree in forensic psychology, clinical psychology, or a related discipline.   Candidates should possess 2-3 years of experience in these fields. Experience and/or training in forensic psychology and clinical psychology are very helpful, especially with child custody and other forensic evaluations.  Strong candidates will show evidence of excellence in communication, networking, writing skills, supervisory skills, reasoning, problem-solving, and team-building. Research and clinical experience in violence, abuse, and trauma fields are also preferred. Although this fellowship will be one year, the possibilities of renewal or continued work at the Institute are possible.
Salary: The annual salary ranges from $30,000-$34,000. Compensation will be commensurate based on years of experience, years since graduation, and previous training experience. Candidates who possess an active clinical license are a plus, but it is not a requirement for the position.

Volunteer Opportunities:


The purpose of the Volunteer Management Program at IVAT is to engage the community in a collaborative effort to improve the quality of life for those impacted by violence, abuse and trauma.

The Institute on Violence, Abuse and Trauma (IVAT) is dedicated to actively involving the community in the daily operations of the Institute by means of a year round volunteer management program. The volunteer management program and its participants are fully integrated into IVAT. We look forward to having a strong group of community members working with the Institute in its movement toward the accomplishment of its mission.

Benefits of Volunteering at IVAT


  1. Volunteers will gain experience working in a unique non- profit environment that is actively working to improve the lives for individuals who have been impacted by issues of violence, abuse and trauma.

  3. Volunteers are able to received waived registration fees if they wish to attend IVAT trainings and conferences.
