Pre-Doctoral Internship Positions Opening

The Institute on Violence, Abuse and Trauma (IVAT) at Alliant International University, San Diego Campus, invites applications for a Pre-Doctoral Internship in the Forensic and Clinical Psychology field. These position begin in the of Summer 2012 and end in the Summer of 2013. We will have three openings for 2-year or 1-year internships.

The goals for the internship year are to gain the necessary training and experience in conducting appropriate forensic assessments for clients who are involved in criminal and civil cases involving a broad range of issues, as well as becoming familiar with examining legal documents and providing the court with appropriate, sound, and helpful recommendations.  Primary duties of the internship position includes a thorough review and summary of various court records including police files, child custody evaluation reports, Child Protective Services reports, psychological and psychiatric evaluation reports, case records, etc. Other duties will include, psychological testing, forensic evaluations (criminal and civil), child custody evaluations, writing consultation reports to be submitted to the court, conducting observations of interactions between involved parties, and observing licensed psychologists assisting attorneys to prepare for questioning of involved parties within cases.

Consultation with attorneys is offered as questions for depositions and trials are discussed. In addition, training opportunities are offered in assisting judges, attorneys, psychologists, social workers, counselors, and custody evaluators in conducting appropriate evaluations when family violence is involved. There are also opportunities for writing and publishing articles in the area of forensic and clinical psychology.

Interns will also gain valuable clinical experience treating both children and adults referred to the IVAT Professional and Clinical Services division. Interns will be expected to carry a mixed case load of individual and family cases, most of which have histories of trauma. Interns will also participate 4 hours per week at the Youth and Family Transition Center, the ACCESS program and/or at the Youth Build Program, San Diego Imperial Counties Labor Council. The ACCESS program provides services to youth transitioning out of the foster care system. Interns will be given the opportunity to provide individual and group treatment as well as provide training to the agency’s case managers at ACCESS.  At Labor Council, interns will conduct individual therapy with young adults who are trying to build skills needed for successful employment and career development.

Group Supervision is 2-3 hours long; Individual supervision is 1 hour per week

Stipend is $300/month

*Must have Master’s degree by start of the internship and be G3 or above. 

*40 hour child custody training (or Family Law Class) is strongly recommended.

*Experience in forensic settings is strongly recommended.

Post-Doctoral Fellowship Position Opening

Institute on Violence, Abuse and Trauma (IVAT) at Alliant International University, San Diego Campus, invites applications for a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in the Forensic and Clinical Psychology field. This position begins in the of Summer 2012 and ends in the Summer of 2013 (start date is flexible).

Responsibilities Include:

  • Working on forensic cases, especially involving child custody and family violence areas, and managing forensic consulting projects (including reviewing and summarizing records and conducting research

  • Contacting and working with attorneys to set up interviews and evaluations

  • Acting as the Case Manager, including overseeing client and associate invoices, supervisors’ schedules, client appointments, etc.

  • Assisting in the supervision and training of Forensic Interns who are doctorate students with Master’s degrees in clinical or forensic psychology

  • Providing consultation within the community regarding issues of family violence victims and offenders, psychological trauma, and children exposed to violence

  • Conduct forensic psychological evaluations to address a variety of referral questions

  • Provide psychotherapy to selected clients

Other Responsibilities Could Include:

  • Working with the IVAT Professional Training and Conferences Department to help plan and manage trainings designed for certification programs

  • Grant writing

  • Research and article writing

  • Developing and conducting program evaluations of local and national agency programs

Under general supervision, the post-doctorate fellow will work under our Professional Services division. The fellow will receive at least 1-2 hours of training, 1.5 hours of group supervision, and 2 hours of individual supervision by a licensed psychologist per week. Additional consultation and other supervision with staff and associates occur on an as needed basis.

Qualifications: Candidates should hold a doctorate degree in forensic psychology, clinical psychology, or a related discipline. Also, candidates should possess 2-3 years of experience in these fields. Experience and/or training in forensic psychology and clinical psychology are very helpful, especially with child custody and other forensic evaluations.  Strong candidates will show evidence of excellence in communication, networking, writing skills, supervisory skills, reasoning, problem-solving, and team-building. Research and clinical experience in violence, abuse, and trauma fields are also preferred. Although this fellowship will be one year, the possibilities of renewal or continued work at the Institute are possible.

Salary: The annual stipend is $30,000 for this tax exempt fellowship. Candidates who possess an active clinical license are a plus and may receive further compensation.

REPORTS TO: IVAT Executive Director and/or President
DEPARTMENT: Professional Trainings & Conferences Division
HOURS: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Half Time or Full-time, Exempt
   
POSITION SUMMARY  
   

The Special Projects Coordinator, under the general direction of the Executive Director  contributes to the grants writing and submissions, development,  special projects, and grant compliance operations of the Institute on Violence, Abuse and Trauma (IVAT) at Alliant International University.

The successful candidate will be dedicated to providing high quality service to all constituencies of Alliant International University. S/he will exhibit the highest professional standards and ethical principles and will be committed to the tenets of IVAT at Alliant’s Mission and Vision.

   
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
   
1. The Special Project Coordinator (SPC) will work with the Executive Director, and the President of IVAT as needed, to identify issues and funding sources.
2. The SPC will help in the design of needs assessment projects with collaborating and partner agencies. S/he will also coordinate projects or initiate relevant projects consistent with IVAT’s mission.
3. The SPC is responsible for researching and identifying grants and private foundations that fit IVAT’s mission and goals.
4. The SPC will be the point of contact with the Alliant Grants and Sponsored Program division in order to coordinate grant applications.
5. The SPC will be responsible for all grant compliance.  S/he will coordinate with Alliant’s financial office to maintain grant financial records. This person is also responsible for creating and maintaining grant budgets and handling logistics for special projects and grants.
6. The SPC will coordinate the development, production, and /or update of grant status, progress and final reports.
7. The SPC works with the conferences and training departments to help with logistics, oversee projects, such as think tanks, consulting, and program evaluation. This may include overseeing the NPEIV assistant with respect to group communications, budget and grant applications for the National Partnership to End Interpersonal Violence across the Lifespan and associated Think Tanks.
8. The SPC will initiate and coordinate the Development activities for IVAT and will help establish an IVAT development committee as part of outreach activities in conjunction with other IVAT staff to raise funds for IVAT.
9. The SPC will supervise any work study students or other assistants as needed who work on special projects noted above.
10. The Special Projects Coordinator works on other various assigned projects and tasks as needed.
   
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:  
   
Education: Master’s Degree in relevant field
Experience:

4 years relevant experience working on grants, development, or special projects in relevant content areas

Management Skills: Manage projects including budgets; oversee committees and programs
Supervises: Possibly an assistant or work study students
Technical Skills: Knowledge of budgets and finances , and program development or management helpful
Technology Skills: Excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point & Internet Research
Other Requirements: Organized, detail oriented, experience in report writing, good oral and written communication skills, ability to multi-task, be able to track projects for compliance and to do follow-up, be able to work in high paced environments while maintaining a positive attitude and outlook, and demonstrate initiative in carry out assignments. Committed tot he IVAT mission and vision.

The purpose of the Volunteer Management Program at IVAT is to engage the community in a collaborative effort to improve the quality of life for those impacted by violence, abuse and trauma.

The Institute on Violence, Abuse and Trauma (IVAT) is dedicated to actively involving the community in the daily operations of the Institute by means of a year round volunteer management program. The volunteer management program and its participants are fully integrated into IVAT. We look forward to having a strong group of community members working with the Institute in its movement toward the accomplishment of its mission.
